Francis Bacon prints and honeycomb characteristic in Simone Rocha’s Hong Kong retailer

Sculptural bees nests encased in clear packing containers are the focus of Simone Rocha’s new retailer that has opened in Hong Kong.

The Simone Rocha retailer has been designed by the style label’s in-house group to characteristic a number of surprising artworks, leading to a gallery-like inside.

It is positioned in Hong Kong’s central enterprise district and is Rocha’s third standalone retail house – it joins a department in New York that opened in 2017 and one other in London that opened again in 2015.

“The design and improvement of the [Hong Kong] retailer has been a private challenge for Simone, producing a possibility to create an intimate and distinctive retail environment,” the designer’s studio instructed Dezeen.

“The shop is an opportunity for folks to interact with the garments bodily and actually perceive the fabrications and elaborations.”

On the centre of the 84 square-metre house is a handful of clear perspex packing containers. Whereas some function show plinths for sneakers and purses, others include honeycomb from bees nests that perform as sculptures, by Chinese language artist Ren Ri.

Ri – who took up beekeeping as a interest in 2006 – achieved the warped form of the works by altering the orientation of the bee hives as soon as each week, encouraging the winged bugs inside to repeatedly change and adapt the structural framework of the nest.

“I abide by the pure guidelines that enable the bees to construct it themselves, to form and to dye the nest as they need,” Ri defined.

In direction of the rear of the shop is a chunky service counter crafted from baby-pink onyx.

Behind it lies a trio of lithographic prints of Francis Bacon’s Triptych August 1972 – a three-part portray that the 20th-century artist accomplished following the suicide of his lover, George Dyer.

Ornate floral cornicing borders the shop’s white partitions, complemented by a gray marble-like flooring. Garments are suspended from easy metallic rails that run alongside the room’s peripheries.

The entrance facade of the department has been painted a contrasting jet-black.

Simone Rocha hails from Dublin, Eire, and made her debut as a designer in 2010 when she introduced her MA graduate assortment at London Style Week.

This is not the one trend label to incorporate artworks in its retailer.
