Corridor of Fame broadcaster Whitaker dies at 95
NEW YORK — Jack Whitaker, whose Corridor of Fame broadcasting profession ranged from the primary Tremendous Bowl to Secretariat’s Triple Crown to brief essays from main sporting occasions, died Sunday morning, CBS reported.
The community stated Whitaker died of pure causes in his sleep in Devon, Pennsylvania. He was 95.
Whitaker, a Philadelphia native who was wounded on Omaha Seaside three days after the D-Day invasion, started his broadcast profession at WCAU-TV in Philadelphia and spent 22 years for CBS Sports activities. He labored for ABC from 1982 within the information and sports activities divisions and was a part of the community’s Olympics protection in 1984 and 1988.

“I grew up watching him ship contemplative and contextual prose along with his well-known brief essays, bringing class and dignity to his trade,” Jim Nantz, the lead CBS Sports activities announcer, stated in a press release. “I spoke to him this week after hospice got here to his house, and his thoughts was nonetheless brilliantly sharp proper to the tip.”
CBS Sports activities chairman Sean McManus stated Whitaker’s writing, presence on air and humanity had been unmatched.
