Vogue Portugal Stirs Controversy With ‘The Insanity Problem’ for July/August 2020
Again in April Vogue Portugal caught the wrath of our discussion board members following two “cheesy and tasteless” covers. Now the magazine does it once more. As a part of its mixed July/August version, the title serves up 4 covers for “The Insanity Problem” with one already pulled from newsstands over its portrayal of psychological sickness. The controversial cowl photographed by Branislav Simoncik depicts a mannequin in a tub with two nurses. The second, much less offensive cowl from Debora Brune reveals mannequin Robina Sommer on a makeshift seaside on the streets of Berlin. Marjan Jonkman seems on the third cowl shot by Alex Blonde, whereas Ricardo Santos captured the fourth and remaining cowl that includes a portrait of a coronary heart.
A fierce debate erupted on our boards. “Oh, this makes me uncomfortable,” stated MON the second the primary cowl (above left) dropped.
“Steven Meisel made it style. This simply seems uncomfortable,” echoed mikel.
SRank shared the identical sentiment: “Why on earth would you set a canopy like this on a style journal with out even attempting to make it modern? It could nonetheless be open to backlash, however it could come throughout as one thing far more logical and in contact with actuality than simply attempting to make such topic ‘cool’.”

“First cowl sucks — that isn’t an excellent illustration of psychological well being to be trustworthy. And it positively shouldn’t be on a Vogue cowl of all issues,” proclaimed lauralynn025.
“Cowl one and 4 show simply how backward the persons are who made them. The final one seems like they’ve borrowed the guts prop from a biology classroom. It’s all so literal and contrived and clearly reveals a lack of expertise with regards to psychological well being,” critiqued Benn98.
“Do these editors these days know what Vogue is about?” questioned MDNA.
