Ward indicators 1-day deal to retire with Hurricanes

Goalie Cam Ward returned to the Carolina Hurricanes on a one-day contract Wednesday, after which he known as it a profession.
Ward, 35, retired from the NHL after a 14-year run that noticed him lead the franchise to its solely Stanley Cup championship in 2006. He was the primary rookie goalie to perform that feat since Patrick Roy of the Montreal Canadiens in 1986, and he turned the primary rookie to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP since goalie Ron Hextall of the Philadelphia Flyers in 1987.

His legacy with the Hurricanes extends past that championship. Ward retires with the franchise information for profession regular-season video games performed (668), wins (318), profitable proportion (.557), shutouts (27) and saves (17,261).
He began 29 video games with the Chicago Blackhawks final season after leaving the Hurricanes as a free agent and went 16-12-Four with a three.67 goals-against common and .897 save proportion. The latter two numbers have been his worst since his rookie yr.
He finishes with a 2.70 GAA and .909 save proportion for his profession. His 334 profession wins ranks him sixth amongst lively goalies.
After a season away from Raleigh, Ward mentioned it was essential to come back again dwelling to retire.
